Our Passion, God’s Power

Matthew 5:6 says, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.”

The Lord God is One of real and true power. His heart longs for His people to know and experience Him for who He is. God is calling His people to hunger and thirst for His righteousness, and in turn they will be filled with His increasing power.

Scripture says in 2 Timothy that in the last days people will have a form of godliness but deny its power (2 Timothy 3:5). This very verse is being fulfilled in our day. Numerous people are going through the motions of religion, going to church, performing Christian rituals—but in reality they look like the rest of the world around them.  Yet, God’s word says that a believer is a new creature in Christ (2 Cor. 5:17). Believers now have the Holy Spirit of God within them. God’s Spirit empowers believers to begin experiencing and partaking in the transformational power of God. But in looking at the modern day church, there seems to be little power emanating from the lives of average believers. Many believers are experiencing broken families, damaged relationships, divorce, depression, drug and alcohol addictions, sexual immorality, apathy, uncontrollable anger, pride, gossip, laziness, boredom—and they feel powerless, as if they will never change. This is troubling indeed. The question arises—can God’s power transform the problems and sins we as believers have struggled with for so long? I am fully convinced God’s power can bring transformation in ways we never before dreamed possible. But this power does not come from our own efforts—it only comes from Jesus Christ Himself. Jesus is calling His people to come nearer to Him, to grow in their yearning for Him…and as this happens…their lives will indeed be increasingly filled with the transformational power of God.
