February 14, 2013
Valentine’s Day night in the Third Ward of Houston Texas was an incredible experience. It was our launch event into a 60 night campaign that will leave this city forever changed for the glory of God. Although there were less than twenty people under the actual tent, hundreds heard of the “unchanging love” of Jesus Christ as Micah 7:18 echoed down the streets and into homes and hearts of men, women, boys, and girls all over the block.
I taught the people concerning knowing Jesus as
Savior rather than just a mere man. Jesus Himself did few miracles in His
hometown because they refused to honor Him as King. If we don’t move past a mere knowledge of God and enter into a relationship with Jesus Christ, we fail to receive salvation.
My heart rejoiced each time someone new stepped into
the tent as I proclaimed the Gospel. As “Amazing Grace” blasted from our sound system I made my way to the street corner to see how it sounded. My spirit was lifted at the sound in my ears. The words were literally flowing down every street in the neighborhood. The best is yet to come.
Kathleen and Kelly put together some awesome brownies and cookies. Ezekiel, Malachi, and Isabella added much excitement. Cody put in a long day to help me get set up. Larissa, Nolan, and Jacob brought the presence of God through their prayers and worship. Pastor William and a few members of his church worshipped powerfully as we sought Jesus together. Thank
you all!
Please continue to pray as we seek the power of the
Holy Spirit to bring transformation to this city.
January 2013
Our excitement to return to the Third Ward was hard
to contain. As we pulled up to the corner of Winbern and Nagle, we were warmly greeted by the men whom attended our meeting just three short weeks ago. My heart anticipates great moves of God in this place as we continue to press in prayer and proclaim the love of Jesus Christ.
On Saturday, January 12, we put the tent up again.
Amazingly enough, two men graciously agreed to lend us a hand. This may sound like typical everyday stuff, but in light of the area and
surrounding situations, the mere fact that these brave men volunteered to assist in raising a church tent is no small miracle.
We have launched into a full scale fast and prayer mode. In addition to this, we plan to walk the streets and spread the word concerning the upcoming move of God. By February 14, we plan to embark into a full scale series of meetings that will only end when the Holy Spirit is finished His work. Pray for this ministry as we lovingly and daringly take the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the inner city of Houston Texas. Without your prayers, the work simply will not get done.
Thank you so much.
So It Begins
December 11, 2012 proved to be a ground shaking night indeed. Submission Ministries and a team from Life Changing Ministries and Fellowship experienced what I firmly believe is the beginning of a mighty move of God in the Third Ward of Houston Texas.
Testimony- On November 25, we experienced
a breakthrough. As me and 5 other brothers from LCMF walked the streets, a series of events unfolded that brought a huge smile to my face. Our intentions for that evening were to simply scope out a piece of land that a lady told me could be used to place our tent on. Well, once we got to the property, I found out by phone that the actual land owner had sold the property and could not allow us to use it. No worries. I am now a veteran at those outcomes as that is the second time since being in Houston that someone gave us land or a building only to have it sold out from under us. Yet all the while God is simply positioning us for the right moment. And that moment was about to happen.
Somewhat discouraged I walked a few yards down the street where Eric Stephens, Matthew Perot, and Mike Hutchinson were talking to some young men in the street. As I, Spencer McClain, and Judah Stephens approached, they paused to meet me and I immediately announced. “Guys I need help. I need land to put up a tent to preach the
Gospel.”
Expecting rejection I stood and waited for an answer. Here is what we got. “This is our corner! You see that grass lot right there, take and use it- this is our corner.”
Man I was filled with excitement. We approached the land and decided to speak with the owners of the house that adjoined the lot just to get a feel for the neighbors and gain approval. The gentleman at the house was in full agreement and gave us his blessing. I asked his name he said-“Jim Woods”. My heart skipped a beat in that moment. Why?
Here I stand, on the threshold of embarking fully into our vision and the man who had just granted his blessing shares the same name as the man who mentored me for more than a decade and first introduced me to tent ministry and sparked within my heart the desire for lost souls, Jim Woods of Greene County VA.
Many may consider that petty. For me, it was as if Jesus stepped down from heaven and kissed me on the forehead. Thank you all for your prayers and support. It truly blesses us and keeps us fighting.
Before leaving that street, we stopped those same young men and asked them a question. Where is the toughest street in Third Ward- we want to go. They looked us in the eye and said, “You’re standing on it.”
November 19, 2012
What an adventure these past six months have been! Honestly, leaving our home for this second journey to Texas was so much harder than the first time. Three months prior to leaving my best friend, my mom, met her Savior Jesus face to face in the presence of all of His
glory. Not a day goes by where my heart doesn’t literally ache from missing her. She set before me how to be a godly woman and live everyday recklessly abandoned to Jesus.
When asked what we were going to do here in Texas my response was always, “We are following the leading of the Holy Spirit and I truly feel that my faith has become my sight!.” I can
honestly say that that is truer right now than it has ever been. We are living moment by moment trusting Jesus to provide every single need for us. And boy has He blown us away!! Zeke and I cannot stop praising Him for all that He has provided. It is so awesome to see the mission field that is right out our backdoor.
Zeke has felt the Lord’s leading to start evangelizing the Third Ward area of Houston. For the past couple of weeks, Zeke, Kelly, the kids and I travel through the area praying for direction, guidance and wisdom. The past month we decided to put a little more action to our faith.
We parked the van. I loaded Isabella onto my back and Malachi hopped on Zeke’s
shoulders and with Kelly by our side, we went walking the streets of the Third
Ward. My Oh My, What a conversation starter kiddos are!! Isabella would wave to
everyone and of course that would give us plenty of opportunity to minister to
them. We were are able to pray for people and what was going on in their lives.
We are excited to see what the Lord has in store as we continue to obey and
plant our feet in this area of the city. We believe that Jesus is going to
bring revival to this city and we are humbled to serve our King.

Kathleen and Kelly are currently in Matamoros, Mexico taking
the love of Jesus Christ to the streets. They and four others from our church,
Life Changing Ministries and Fellowship are distributing food, painting
orphanages/churches, and taking the Gospel to new colonies.
Many consider it crazy to risk your life to carry the news
of Jesus to the lost. It does however become a bit less risky when you come to
the conclusion that it is all we really live for.
Keep our team in prayer as we advance in the effort to
evangelize the infamous Third Ward of Houston. Revival is on the way and God is
giving us such favor as we move along those streets throughout the day. Thank
you for all your prayers and support.
October 13, 2012
The Submission Ministries team has been in Houston, Texas for over 6 months now. These have been months of praying and seeking the Lord for wisdom and guidance. God has opened doors for jail ministry every Sunday morning, and He has given us the opportunity to minister alongside members from our church at Planned Parenthood. We do not want to talk about all the horrible things that are going on around us and do nothing about it. Jesus is calling us to take a stand. We are so excited to see the Kingdom of God advance in a city that is filled with gang violence, drugs, sex trafficking, and the largest abortion clinic in the United States.
September 3-13 Honduras
Zeke and a few other men from our church were able to serve in the jungles of Honduras. They ministered in 5 different villages within an area called La Mesquitia. To arrive in these different villages, they had to take a 16 hr boat ride down river. They were out of contact and away from all civilization for days. The purpose for this trip was to assist in the initial stages of a church plant with Chris Rose and his family. Chris Rose is a missionary to Honduras. These men found themselves without clean water; which left them to drink coconut juice and water that was unsanitary. At the end of the trip, all 4 men became very sick. The team came back with parasites and skin trouble. Zeke was sick weeks after his return, but he is doing much better now.
October 7, 2012 Jail Ministry
Over the past few months, anywhere from 5-7 people have consistently been going to preach at the jail every Sunday morning. The Holy Spirit is moving and working in a people that most would write off as hopeless. I have seen redemption in the lives of the inmates; a passion to know Jesus more. This past Sunday, we had a total of 9 members from our church attend the services at the jail. The women and men separate into different tanks. I love walking into a tank on an early Sunday morning, and all the inmates are seated waiting to hear the Word of God. They look forward to Sunday morning church. God is moving among the men in this particular jail. There have been testimonies of male inmates with their faces to the floor during worship, absolutely broken over there sin. They cry out to God with tears falling down there cheeks. On this particular Sunday, two of the inmates came to Zeke and another guy from our church wanting to receive the Holy Spirit. Zeke laid his hands on him, and they began to pray. As this man was crying out to God, the Holy Spirit filled him and he began to speak in tongues. God is moving in places that we would deem hopeless. I was deeply encouraged by the women, learning that they meet each night holding Bible studies in their tanks. Women who wanted nothing to do with Jesus months ago are now seeking Him and learning how to love Him for all that He is.
We are in the beginning stages of our outreach in the inner city of Houston. This past week, we spent time riding around an area called the 3rd Ward. This is an area where most people do not want to go. It’s one of the most dangerous places in the city of Houston, but God has laid this place on our hearts for a reason. The hope is to start evangelizing soon, and serving the people in whatever way we can. One thing we really want to be conscious of is that we are not just seeing people pray a prayer for salvation, but we never invest in their lives. We want to invest in the lives of these people, and teach them how to obey what Jesus has commanded. We want to see men and woman become absolute warriors for the Kingdom of God, radically changed by the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
October 13, 2012 Planned Parenthood
This morning was spent at the largest abortion clinic in the nation serving with brother Joel Harper. Right outside of the abortion clinic is a large blue bus where women can have free ultrasounds. There is a 9 out of 10 probability that if a woman hears the baby’s heartbeat, and sees him/her on the monitor, they are less likely to abort. As cars were entering Planned Parenthood, we would stand in the middle of the road handing out little cards giving information about the blue bus. A woman is able to abort her baby up to 25 weeks of pregnancy. This is 3 weeks shy of the third trimester. Thousands of babies are being aborted on a daily basis. Sometimes we feel as if the problem is too large, and how can one person make a difference. If one baby’s life is saved from us spending 2 hours on the side of the road, it was well worth our time.
God is so incredibly faithful. He has called us to so much more than just sitting in the church pews every Sunday morning. Jesus has called us to go out into the world, caring for those who are absolutely broken. There is too much work to be done. We do not have time to be lazy or search for the comforts this world offers. Jesus demands our everything. Pray for our group as God sends us out into the city. Pray that lives will be changed and that the name of the Lord will be glorified.
In Christ,
Submission Ministries
